Adoption Journey  2005
Here we go again!!  As many of you know, last year we had our appointment at the NAC in Ukraine on February 23.  On March 1, 2004, Jacob became a member of our family.  We can't believe it's been over a year!!  And we've decided to adopt again.  We're hoping to adopt sibling, a boy and a girl under the age of 6.

We made it to Kiev!  No missed flights like last time!  But also no sleep for 24 hours!!
We had our appointment yesterday at the NAC.  Hopefully today we are on our way to see 2 boys, 2 and 5, in the southern region Ukraine.  Don't know for sure which region, but we know it's not Odessa.  We will post more as soon as we know something.

There was some extra paperwork to do with the referral...so will finally got the paperwork today to go and see the boys.  However, it was too late in the day to get a train ( it was full) and the flight to Zaporizhzhya was cancelled because there was no one on it.  So we aren't going to see them until Sunday night.  So we are here in Kiev until then.  Our tanslator is taking us on a tour of Kiev tomorrow.  We've done a little exploring on our own, and hope to do some more this weekend.  Nothing much else to report until we get to the region.  The boys are in different orphanages, so we don't know if we will see them both on Monday or not.  Until then....

Not that I haven’t had a lot of time to write about what’s been going on, I just didn’t want to post in until we had some concrete information to tell everyone.

It’s been a long week.  We went to our appointment at the NAC on Tuesday.  While we were waiting we met a couple from Ireland who were there hoping to adopt a boy under 3.  We had to wait about half and hour to get in to see the psychologist.  It was the same one that we had when we adopted Jacob.  We were showing everyone there Jacob’s pictures.  They couldn’t believe how chubby he was!  We looked through the books and found 2 brothers, 2 and 5.  There were no brother and sister siblings available.  They showed us 2 girls, 6 and 7.  They were a little older than we wanted, and we really want Jacob to have brother.  So we chose to go and see the boys.  We had to return the next day to get our referral paperwork.  There was some issue with it, so we had to go back the next day.  It didn’t get done until late Thursday, by then the train was full, and the flight to Zaporizhzhya was cancelled.  So now we have to wait to travel to the region on Sunday.  It’s been hard waiting and not knowing when we were going to travel.

Today Julia and Vitale took us on a tour of Kiev with another Irish couple that we met.  They are traveling on Sunday too.  They are going to Kharkiv to see a little boy.  We were hoping that they were going to the same orphanage that we adopted Jacob from, but it’s not.  We had a great time touring the city.  Vitale is very knowledgeable about the history of the buildings.  Little did we know that our apartment is just a few blocks away from center city Kiev.  All this time we could have been doing some site seeing.  We also went to the souvenir market and bought a few things for home.  We didn’t get to buy anything last time for Jacob and we wanted to make sure he had something.  We were supposed to go to O’Brians Irish Pub tonight with the couple from Ireland, but we were all too tired after walking all day.  So tomorrow we are going to do some more site seeing and hit the Pub for some lunch.  We had pizza earlier in the week, but David and I are both craving American food.  We hope O’Brians will have some of that to offer!!

The weather has been great here.  For the most part it’s been sunny and warm…in the 60’s.  Today it was beautiful.  Sorry that there is not much else to report.  Once we get to the region and meet the boys we’ll be able to post pictures and give more details.  It takes along time to upload the pictures, so there may not be very many….but enough for all of you at home.  Unless something really exciting happens, we probably won’t post until after we see the boys.
